Day 25 Upper Penisula - by Sharlene

What a day of 291 miles from 11:30 - 6:30,  with 2 gas stops, lunch, 2 waiting out the rain stops and a couple of photo stops. Rain, rain go away come again when we finish this ride. LOL Rain is to be expected in this kind of ride. We started out with light sprinkles and waited till the front had passed the Saginaw area and above. It didn't take long before we caught up to it and as you may see The Jerky Outlet was the next waiting it out point. I highly recommend the honey glazed turkey but the cherry smoked turkey was good too. You can order on line and find every Jerky option, good for those on a protein packed meal plan. As we left the Saginaw area it changed from farming areas to wooded forest, only 1 deer spotted today. Back into the rain for a bit but we just gave in and rode through it. Then out came the sun and dried up all the rain for a beautiful ride the rest of the day. The Mackinaw Bridge is over 5 miles long and over 700 feet above the lake water. It's 750 feet longer than the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. Some consider it the 8th wonder of the world and it's amazing. They call it the "Mighty Mac". We have now ridden both ends of 75 in Florida and now Michigan. Now we will ride the length of US 2 from Michigan to Washington. Lake Michigan is huge and the different shades of blue of the water makes you think it's more of an ocean than a lake. There are several state parks and small towns along US 2 before we end up in Manistique for the night. The weather looks like rain tonight through tomorrow night. Might just be the best place to sit it out here at our nice little motel.

Good to see you are still moving along. An amazing trip I wish I had the time to take. The pics are great - I see you guys got close to my property in WVa. I go up over Sideling Hill on my way from Baltimore to Cumberland MD and then drop south 15 miles on route 28 to Fort Ashby WV.
Stay dry, ride safe and post some more pics. I'll look again later. Dave W
